Ozzie Pride
I'm currently in Sydney staying on the North Shore with family. Yesterday we all went to my youngest nephews school assembly. It was lovely to see an "inner city" school with trees, grass and loads of play areas. So not like the school Jessie was attending before she left London.
Before the assembly started the head boy & girl held up on the Australian flag and the whole school sang the Australian national anthem. I was blown away and I felt a huge sense of pride for them all. At the end of the assembly they all sang the school song. Sydney is a very multicultural city and I was pleased to see how they all got on and had a sense of pride in their new (in all senses) country.
I'm used to school songs being sung, especially from my school days. But the national anthem was a revelation. I'm all for national pride and its lovely to see. Come on Blighty lets think about using our national anthem more often.
