Are London drivers more considerate?
Well yes I think they might be. Certainly a London driver tends to be more considerate of buses and cyclists. Maybe because the London driver relies on public transport and sees the importance of letting the bus go first. Maybe the London Driver is so stuck in traffic s/he has time to let the cyclist nip in front of him.
Well in Wellington this consideration towards buses and cyclists is a rare sight indeed. I've been hooted and peeped for slowing down and letting a trolley bus leave a stop, I've been tutted at for slowing down for a cylist at a busy junction. Only last week I saw a small truck screech round two cyclists on a narrow winding coast road in Houghton Bay. And last night I saw a woman 4X4 driver lose her rag waiting for a trolley bus to turn in the turning circle in Island Bay. Chill lady!
So much for the laid back Kiwi when they get behind the wheel. I'm sure its because they are used to driving on roads where the traffic moves freely and you can sensibly judge how long a car journey should take.
So for the moment I'm thinking London drivers are the most considerate. They have no choice!
