So far I've loved and embraced social networking. Look I'm writing a blog, that should be proof enough. My addiction to Facebook is potentially getting out of control and my LinkedIn network is now extending to my NZ colleagues.
But today I had a "bah humbug" moment with social networking. Flicking through Facebook this afternoon over a cuppa I noticed a pal had posted an update about being at a certain US airport and that they were on their way home. I noticed the post as this particular friend is not an avid user of Facebook. Then I noticed the friend had changed their name back to their maiden name. Oh I thought and checked their status, nothing about relationships but certainly their photos had been seriously edited and no longer included the wedding snaps.
I came off Facebook and hopped back to my desk. I casually mentioned what I'd found out to a colleague and sulkily said "I'm surprised to find this out through Facebook". Colleague turned to me and said "Get with it - its how we communicate in todays social networking society"
Well I'm a bit out of sorts with this. Yes I see job change information from colleagues past and present on LinkedIn. I'm just not sure I like finding out about pals marriages and relationships ending in the worlds biggest online community.
Am I old fashioned blog land or do I really need to "Get with it"?
