11 things for 2011
A belated Happy New Year!
At the turn of 2011 a Facebook pal posted that she was going to think of 11 things she would like to achieve in 2011. Good idea I thought. Three days later I was still struggling to think of 11 things. Why? Well it is because I want to really ACHIEVE the things I list down. Well 18 days later I have a list, not 11 things, but things I want to do. Another reason it was dificult to choose 11 things was that I didn't want to "force' them out of my mind and onto a bit of paper. I wanted them to flow out of my mind easily. That way the "things" were more likely to stick with me.
So here is my list. I've also said why the Thing has been to selected to be part of my list....
1) Cook more Fish & Shellfish
I was holidaying in Sydney and eating the most beautiful fish and seafood in the world. Light, tasty and amazingly cooked. At home I tend to stick with stirfried prawns and oven baked fish steaks. So this year I am going to get upskill and learn to cook a wider variety of fish dishes.
2) Go on a Tramp.
My lovely sister in law was talking about how we can do babysitting tag teams this year. We live close to each other and keep talking about how we can get our more thanks to having Free babysitters round the corner. She then suggested having our daughter for a weekend if we wanted to go on a two day tramp. Wow, fantastic. NZ is full of amazing tramps and its somethng we used to do before becoming parents. I'm planning the trip as soon as I can.
3) Play more card games.
My daughter has learned a few card games recently. Bar Snap I know none. She has since taught me how to play Rubbish and I really enjoyed the time with her playing a simple card games. Time for me to learn more I think.
4) Listen to more Kiwi and Ozzie music.
I tend to place safe and listen to what I know. Chilling with family in Sydney my brother-in-law selected some Kiwi/ Oz music to play randomly on the iPod. It was great, quality tunes, lovely melodies and some opportunites to hear new stuff. So I'm going to get out of my comfort zone and widen my musical taste.
5) Read a SciFi book
Talking of getting out of my comfort zone...I decided to read a SciFi book this year. Like music, I tend to read what I know I will like. Except for the Hobbit I honestly don't think I've read anything that could be called SciFi. I've been told Dune is a great book to start with so I'll be looking for it in the library this year.
6) Get to Dunedin
My partner is from Dunedin and since arriving in NZ in November 2009 we haven't been back to Dunedin to say 'Hi". Don't worry we have seen all the Dunedin family, we're not that bad! But a chance to wonder round the lovely Dunedin must happen this year. We must also catch up with pals and family that we haven't seen yet.
Well that is it. Just 6 things. I'm sure the rest will follow and I'll be up to my 11 but as I said, I want them to choose themselves slowly and when they area ready. But I have 6 to get my teeth into. Good, I like to be busy.
